Coraciiformes TAG: Hornbills

The majority of the active SSP programs within the Coraciiformes TAG fall in the order Bucerotidae. Of the 54 species of hornbills found across the world, fourteen are currently or formerly represented by a SSP. These include Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Southern Ground Hornbill, Red-billed Hornbill, Trumpeter Hornbill, Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, Great Hornbill, Rhinoceros Hornbill, White-crowned Hornbill, Knobbed Hornbill, Wrinkled Hornbill, Writhed Hornbill, Papuan Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, and Oriental Pied Hornbill. Hornbills occur across sub-Saharan Africa, through India and southern Asia, across the Indonesian and Philippine archipelagos, and east to the Solomon Islands. Hornbills are not found in the New World. Within the hornbill family, 23 species inhabit Africa, while the remaining 31 are found in Asia. The largest and most widespread genus in Africa, Tockus, is represented by 13 species.
